Line Installations: Backing London Black
Hello there… Edd-Clibbens-Head-of-Sales here to share the secrets of how we’ve been spending a lot of quality time in pub cellars recently, preparing venues to pour the perfect pint of the good stuff - our new nitro porter, London Black.
Backing our Dark Horse
We only launched London Black in April 2021 and it’s had quite the journey so far. It’s rapidly become the second best selling beer in our own bars, even outselling The Pale Ale! It’s this demand and success, coupled with rave reviews from the likes of Will Hawkes and Anthony Gladman, that has made us so keen to share it with as many of our trade customers as possible. Here’s how we’ve been going about that.
What is London Black?
London Black is a Porter. Everyone knows what those are. But, it’s also a Nitro Porter. Not everyone knows what that is, exactly. In short, it means it’s carbonated with, and dispensed using, nitrogen gas. Most beers are carbonated with, and dispensed using, Co2. Co2 makes things fizzy, nitrogen makes things smooth. Smooth, creamy and delicious. That’s the long and short of it.
Can my pub pour it?
Any pub that sells Guinness, without exception, is equipped to serve it using nitrogen. Many pubs and bars who have chosen not to sell that particular Irish Dry Stout, out of their commendable decision to independence, are not equipped in such a way. So when London Black came on the scene as the perfect local, independent alternative, something needed to be done to make it a hassle free decision for venues.
Cellar Tech from Paul Anspach
If someone wishes to take on a line of London Black, we enlist the services of Paul Anspach himself. Paul and the Anspach & Hobday van has everything we need to bring a cellar up to speed. New regulators to allow for a new type of gas - 70/30. New beer line, perhaps. Finally, a new tap for the beer to pour through a creamer nozzle. A bit like a sparkler on a cask line (or literally the same as what you’d do to serve that other stout that does all the adverts and rugby).
Enjoy our Local Answer
So to conclude, London Black is our new flagship beer. We want it to be enjoyed by as many people as possible, served in the perfect way.
