The Testimonials

Chris Mead, General Manager at the Kings Arms

"The first sip of London Black, and you'll know this is something you've never had before. This isn’t an Irish Dry Stout, it's something else, something bigger.

The second sip reveals the depth of flavor. Coffee bitterness balanced with dark fruit sweetness. Truly a masterpiece, worthy of being called a London Porter.

By the third sip, you’ll be wondering why you haven't been drinking this from the start. Perfection in a glass."

Oli at the Trafalgar

“It is always a pleasure to pour a pint from one of London’s friendliest and continually innovative breweries. Nicely summed up by a customer the other week, after taking their first sip: ‘best pint I’ve had in ages.’

As a truly independent freehouse, a South London Local and a backstreet boozer that prides itself on reliability, integrity and a commitment to quality products at solid prices, London Black is a no brainer. We're proud to serve a perfect pint of the independent black stuff in its beautiful glass to evangelists and converts alike.’

Catherine Sinden - General Manager at the Market Coffee House

“This is really what it’s all about for us. It’s so special to be able to replace those generic, standard names on our taps with much tastier beer from local, independent businesses like ourselves.”

Freddy Bulmer - Buyer at the Wine Society

“Collaboration and cooperation are vital to the way we work at The Wine Society and A&H are a perfect fit for us in that respect. They are a genuine, quality-first business who are doubtless one of the most exciting craft breweries in the UK right now.”

Josh at the Craft Beer Company

It's rare that you find a beer that will always have a place on your bar the way London Black has, especially in a market as saturated with new and exciting products coming at you every week, like craft beer.

Equally as impressive has been working with Anspach and Hobday as a company. There is a huge amount of care, attention to detail and love for what they're doing, evident in all my dealings with them. If it's installing a 70/30 line, helping isolate a gas leak or getting an emergency couple of kegs over via an uber at the last minute, these guys have always gone above and beyond to look after me as a customer. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

All in all, making the switch to London Black from any equivalent stout or porter is an absolute no brainer. It's the best tasting nitro beer on the market at the moment, made by a small crew of dedicated brewers right in the heart of London. What's not to love?

Jack Crystal at Duke of Greenwich

RPG Taverns

London Black has been a slam dunk with the crowd at RPG Taverns from day 1. In fact, it's proven so popular that London Black now have a dedicated line in the Tavern, and it pours a truly wonderful pint!

We can't recommend London Black highly enough, and look forward to working with Anspach & Hobday for many moons to come.

Keiran at The Black Heart

“The black stuff never fails to impress me or my customers, it’s smooth creaminess is a kind nod of an old comforting friend, yet its taste stands out on its own and shows that it’s no copycat, it’s the refined connoisseur’s porter of choice.”

Kai at Lore of the Land

Working with Ansbach and Hobday has been an absolute pleasure. Their dedication to quality and service is second to none. From their prompt and reliable deliveries to their unwavering support, they truly go above and beyond to ensure a seamless experience.

Their beers are incredibly well received across Fitzrovia and West London, with customers consistently praising their depth of flavour and exceptional craftsmanship. The London Black is a standout favourite, offering a smooth and satisfying alternative to traditional stouts, while the IPA cask never fails to delight our real ale drinkers.

The team at Ansbach and Hobday is always incredibly professional, friendly, and responsive. Whether it’s assisting with orders, providing expert advice, or simply offering a helping hand when needed, their commitment to excellence shines through.

Craft Beer Company’s The Bear

‘At The Bear Paddington we are massive fans of London Black.

As a craft-beer-dedicated venue which only stocks independent products, we were really excited when Anspach and Hobday created London Black. We've always looked for something that could please the drinkers of that famous very non-independent Irish Nitro Stout and London Black absolutely delivers.

At Paddington our clientele come from all walks of life, tourits on holiday, office workers, commuters and locals. Everyone drinks London Black (especially the staff).

We've sent many an American tourist down to Bermondsey to stock up on cans after they fell in love with London Black at The Bear. We're also a firm favourite of Beer influencer Prime Mutton which sees many fans from all over the country turn up to sample a pint.

It's a smart pint, it tastes incredible and it looks the part. A firm favourite in these parts.

I love Anspach & Hobday. I first tasted them at a Three Wine Men, an event we were doing with Oz Clarke and Tim Atkin. Their beer is just delicious. I mean, who wouldn’t want to drink it

“It has been said, mainly by me, that Bitter doesn’t work in a can. I’m happy to report that The Ordinary Bitter from Anspach & Hobday does, especially with its crispness and dry, bitter finish.”
