As many of you will know, now is the time of year when we get brewing our annual Christmas beer - The Pfeffernüsse Saison. This year to make things a little different and inject some festive fun into it we hosted a poetry competition where the lucky winner could get their poem on the label of this year’s bottle, along with a host of Pfeffernüsse goodies.
The competition received a great deal of entries and truly surpassed what we expected, both in terms of the quality and the quantity of what was penned so thank you to all who entered. However, with competitions such as this we’re afraid there can be only be one winner - and that winner is Chris Green!
Chris will have his poem on the label of this year’s bottle and have his poem read out in front of everybody at this year’s Christmas Carols, taking place on the 6th December. We’d love it if you could come and join us for some Yuletide celebrations at the Bermondsey brewery from 6pm. You’ll be able to join the event page here.
Thank you to all of those people who took their time to write and send in their poems. Merry Christmas from the Anspach & Hobday team!
Chris’s poem
A saison for the season,
The Pfeffernüsse stirs,
Glimmering by candlelight,
Gently it purrs.
A deep golden hue,
Candied sugar and spice,
Gifts from the Pfeffernüsse,
It loves to entice.
Cinnamon and ginger,
Nutmeg and clove,
The Pfeffernüsse dozes,
In front of the stove.
Wrap up warmly,
Pour this to your mug,
Sing songs and show kindness,
The Pfeffernüsse hug.
